THC vapes in South Africa — what you're actually inhaling

Full-spectrum THC vape carts contain hemp-extract concentrate (CO₂- or hydrocarbon-extracted from low-THC cannabis), thinned with a carrier oil — usually MCT for cleaner-burning cartridges, or VG/PG blends in some products. Total cannabinoids per 1 ml cartridge typically range 300–700 mg, with trace THC under 0.3% and the rest as CBD, CBG, CBN plus minor cannabinoids.

The flavour names (Raspberry Kush, OG Kush, Sour Diesel) come from added or natural terpenes — the same aromatic compounds found in the original cannabis strain. Terpenes don't change the cannabinoid math but they do change the experience: linalool feels different from limonene at the same mg dose.

How to dose a THC vape

Start with 1 puff and wait 5 minutes. Onset is fast but the full effect takes a few minutes to land — don't chain-puff before you know how you respond. Most users settle at 2–3 puffs per session, 2–3 sessions per day at most.

Plan to be home or somewhere safe for the first hour. Even trace-THC products can produce noticeable effects in inexperienced users, especially when stacked with other cannabinoids consumed earlier in the day.

A standard 1 ml cartridge yields 200–300 puffs depending on hardware and inhale style — typically 2–4 weeks of moderate use.

Drug-test risk — read carefully

Trace THC (<0.3%) products are generally below the threshold of standard SA workplace drug screens (urine THC-COOH at 50 ng/mL). But:

• Heavy daily use accumulates THC metabolites in adipose tissue — heavy users can occasionally register positive even on trace-THC products

• Safety-sensitive roles (mining, transport, healthcare, security) often use lower thresholds — assume any detectable THC may matter

• Pre-employment or random testing — if you have one coming up, switch to CBD Vapes (zero-THC isolate) for at least 4 weeks beforehand

If your role requires you to be drug-test clean at all times, full-spectrum products are not the right format. Stick to CBD-isolate options.

How this differs from Section-21 medical cannabis

Section 21 medical-cannabis dispensing covers clinical-strength THC products — typically 10–25 mg THC per dose, prescribed by a HPCSA-registered practitioner after a screening for a diagnosed condition. Different regulatory pathway, different cost structure, different intended use.

Storage + hardware care

Store upright, room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Heat degrades both cannabinoids and terpenes — never leave a cart on a hot dashboard. If a cart clogs (no vapour despite a charged battery) warm the cart in your hand for 60 seconds — that's usually enough to liquefy thickened oil.

Cleaning a 510-battery: detach the cart, gently wipe the threads with isopropyl on a cotton swab once a month. Keeps connections clean and prolongs hardware life.
