For most home use, a portable dry-herb unit covers 90% of needs at a fraction of the price of a desktop. Travel-friendly, USB-C charged, runs 60–90 minutes per charge.
Pax Labs (USA) sets the standard for build quality and warranty support — Pax Plus carries a lifetime warranty, Pax Mini ten years. DaVinci Artiq targets the 510-cartridge user who wants precision voltage control and an extended cooling air-path. XVape Avant is the budget-conscious dry-herb option with ceramic chamber and five preset temperatures.
Dry-herb vaporizers heat ground flower in a ceramic or stainless oven. Best flavour, most preserved cannabinoid + terpene profile. Cleanup is more involved (5 minutes every 5–10 sessions). Pax Plus, Pax Mini, XVape Avant.
Concentrate vaporizers (with the right insert) heat wax, shatter or rosin instead of flower. Higher cannabinoid concentration per puff. Pax Plus accepts a Pax Concentrate Insert (sold separately).
510-thread cartridge vapes screw onto pre-filled disposable cartridges. Convenient, no cleanup, fixed dose per cartridge. DaVinci Artiq.
Lower temperatures (180–195 °C) preserve flavour and terpenes — the smoke is gentler on the throat and the taste profile of the strain comes through. Higher temperatures (210–220 °C) deliver more cannabinoid extraction per puff at the cost of harsher vapour. Most experienced users land in the 195–205 °C band as a balance.
If you're new to vaping, start at the lowest preset on the device for your first session, take 2–3 puffs and wait 10 minutes before increasing — vape onset is much faster than edibles, so it's easy to overshoot.
Clean the oven and mouthpiece every 5–10 sessions with the included pipe cleaners and 90%+ isopropyl alcohol. Avoid water near the battery. Charge with the included USB-C cable (or any USB-C power supply). Store dry-herb units upright when full to prevent ground material settling into the air-path.
