How you store your cannabis directly affects its potency, flavour, and shelf life. Three enemies degrade quality fastest:
Properly stored, premium flower stays at peak quality for 6–12 months. Sloppy storage drops that to 4–8 weeks.
Carbon-lined pouches (Best Buds, Nitecore) trap odour molecules in an activated-carbon layer. Tested SA street-test: a quality smell-proof pouch holds up to 1 g of fresh flower with no detectable smell at arm's length. Useful for travel, shared accommodation, work commutes.
What pouches don't do: replace airtight storage at home. They're for transit, not long-term storage. For at-home storage use glass jars with airtight seals (Mason jars work fine).
Tips for stronger odour control: double-bag in a zip-bag inside the pouch. Wash the pouch monthly — carbon liners absorb odour but eventually saturate.
Hand pipes — metal lasts longest, ceramic gives best heat distribution, glass is fragile but easiest to clean (rinse with isopropyl alcohol). For daily use, metal or ceramic; for occasional, glass is fine.
Ashtrays — heavy-bottom metal won't tip when bumped, easier to clean than ceramic. Bulldog Amsterdam metal ashtrays are the long-lasting choice.
Mixing pots / bowls — for grinding loose tobacco or herbs into your mix, or pre-portioning for a session. Plastic pots (Cannabuben house range) are dishwasher-safe and lightweight; ceramic bowls feel premium but are heavier.
Resin accumulates fast in pipes, glass tips, and grinders. Once a week:
Don't use bleach (toxic residue) or abrasive scouring (scratches enamel). 90%+ isopropyl is the universal solvent — keep a bottle in the cleaning kit.
