WHY WE EXIST
The frustration that started it
Cannabuben began as a response to a South African CBD market where labels overpromised and documentation was hard to find. Shelves were full of bottles that wouldn't name their lab, wouldn't declare their cannabinoid content precisely, and wouldn't acknowledge the regulatory categories they were selling into. Some products made outright medical claims that broke the rules customers didn't know existed.
We thought the better approach was obvious: run the full SANAS-accredited lab test on every batch, make the COA accessible in two clicks, state plainly which Schedule the product belongs to, and keep the marketing language inside the lane the law actually permits. That's still the whole brief.
We're a small team working out of Cape Town, fulfilling orders nationally via courier partners. We don't pretend to be an international brand; we're a South African shop selling to South African adults who've done their research.
VALUES
Four commitments, no moving parts
Document or delist.
If a product can't produce a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis, it doesn't get listed. If an existing listing can't update its COA for a new batch, it comes off the site.
Honest framing.
Schedule-0 wellness gets framed as wellness. Section 21 medicine gets framed as medicine. Neither gets oversold as the other. We'd rather lose a sale than blur a category.
No dark patterns.
No fake scarcity timers, no synthetic reviews, no abandoned-cart guilt-trips. If you don't want the product, you don't want it. We'll be here next month.
Privacy by default.
We don't sell customer data, we don't run retargeting pixels that share PII with ad platforms, and we keep order history retention windows as short as HPCSA regulations permit.
Our stance
Two systems, one standard
Most cannabis-adjacent storefronts in South Africa either pretend Section 21 doesn't apply or hide behind legal ambiguity. We take a different route: non-prescription items ship the same day; anything scheduled (S4, S6, Section 21) goes through a HPCSA-registered clinical review and SAHPRA authorisation before it leaves the dispensing pharmacy.
We are transparent about which category each product belongs to, we maintain a good-faith audit trail of every clinical decision, and we never ship a scheduled product without review.
