CBD vapes in South Africa — what to look for

The SA vape market has expanded quickly in the past few years but quality is uneven. The five things that separate a properly-made CBD vape cart from a cheap one:

• Carrier oil disclosed — MCT-based vape liquid is generally safer than VG/PG-heavy mixes at high temperatures; some manufacturers don't disclose

• Cannabinoid content per cartridge — should list total mg CBD (e.g. 300 mg per 1 ml cart) and ideally per-puff (e.g. ~3 mg per 200-puff cart)

• Hardware origin — ceramic-core 510-thread carts produce cleaner vapour than cotton-wick alternatives

How to use a CBD vape

If you're new to vaping: take a slow 2–3 second draw, hold for 2 seconds, then exhale. Wait 5 minutes before deciding whether to redose — onset is fast (30–90 seconds) but effects build over 3–5 minutes.

Most users start with 1–2 puffs per session, 2–3 sessions a day. A 300 mg cartridge lasts 200+ puffs depending on hardware and inhale style — typically 2–3 weeks of moderate use. Don't chain-puff: take a session, let it settle, return later if you want more.

Hardware compatibility — 510-thread vs disposables

510-thread cartridges screw onto any standard 510-battery (the universal vape connector found on most pen-style batteries). Reusable, more economical per mg of CBD, but you supply the battery.

Disposables come with everything built in — cart + battery + mouthpiece in one sealed unit. No charging, no compatibility worry, just inhale until empty (typically 200–400 puffs) and recycle responsibly. Slightly higher cost-per-mg but zero setup.

When a CBD vape fits your routine

Vapes are situational: fast on, fast off. Useful for acute moments — pre-meeting anxiety, post-workout cooldown, that one stressful afternoon hour. They're less useful as a steady daily routine, where an oil or edible gives you cleaner control over total mg consumed.

If you're running a structured daily CBD protocol (e.g. 10 mg morning + 10 mg evening) keep that on tinctures or gummies and use the vape only as needed. Vaping a steady daily dose is possible but harder to measure precisely.

Storage + shelf life

Store upright, room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Heat degrades cannabinoids — never leave a cart on a sunny dashboard. Refrigeration extends shelf life but causes condensation that can clog the mouthpiece; freezer is too far. Room temperature in a drawer is the standard.

Sealed cartridges last 12 months. Opened: 6 months for best flavour. Disposables: use within 12 months of the date on the pack.
