Malva pudding is the dessert that always wins. A spiced sponge with apricot jam in the batter, then a hot butter-cream sauce poured over the moment it leaves the oven so the sponge drinks it in. The wellness twist: the sauce is built around CBD-infused butter, stirred in off-heat just before pouring. Per-serving dose: 5 mg CBD. Adults 18+; serve in clearly labelled bowls if there are non-CBD guests at the table.

What you'll need
- Sponge:
- 180 g cake flour
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 180 g caster sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp apricot jam
- 30 g butter, melted
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 250 ml milk
- Sauce:
- 100 ml fresh cream
- 100 g butter (plain)
- 120 g caster sugar
- 60 ml hot water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 8 g CBD-infused butter holding 40 mg CBD total (= 5 mg/serving) — stirred in off-heat
METHOD
How to make it
STEP 1
Heat the oven
Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a 23 cm square ovenproof dish.
STEP 2
Mix the batter
Sift flour, bicarb and salt. In a second bowl, whisk sugar and eggs until pale. Whisk in apricot jam, melted butter and vinegar. Alternate folding flour mixture and milk into the egg mixture. Pour into the dish.
STEP 3
Bake
Bake 40–45 minutes until the sponge springs back to touch and a skewer comes out with moist crumbs.
STEP 4
Make the plain sauce base
While the sponge bakes: warm cream, plain butter, sugar and hot water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Do not boil. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla.
STEP 5
Stir in the CBD butter off-heat
Wait 2 minutes for the sauce to drop below a strong simmer. Stir in the CBD butter until fully integrated. The CBD only enters once the heat has come off.
STEP 6
Pour over hot sponge
Take the sponge out of the oven. Immediately spoon the warm CBD sauce evenly over the surface — it should soak in within minutes. Rest 10 minutes. Serve with custard or vanilla ice-cream.

Common questions
- Can I make this in advance?
- The sponge keeps for two days refrigerated. Make the sauce fresh each time and pour over warm sponge before serving. Stirring CBD into a cold sauce works too if you skip the reheat.
- What about kids at the table?
- Make a separate small batch with plain butter sauce (skip the CBD butter) and serve in clearly distinguishable bowls. CBD products are strictly 18+.
